DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

The N.C. Medical Board took prejudicial action -- such as limiting the ability to practice or requiring the surrender of a medical license -- against 150 medical providers in 2005. It disciplined 132 physicians, 15 physician assistants and three nurse practitioners.

Disciplinary actions* last year included:

16 license revocations

46 license suspensions

2 summary suspensions

16 license surrenders

10 license denials

11 temporary licenses

106 consent orders, each stipulating disciplinary measures tailored to the misconduct

* More than one action may be taken against a single person.
