Church will sell art, handiwork

St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Hillsborough will hold its first Festival of the Society Tree from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

FeST is modeled after Christmas festivals of the 19th century Ladies Sewing Society, when needlework was sold to raise money for the community. On sale will be handmade items, artwork, food, decorations, seeds and plant cuttings. Seasonal music will be performed. Proceeds will support organizations addressing needs for food, shelter and clothing in Orange County.

For more information, call 732-9308.

Events to Benefit Fred A. Olds School

Fred A. Olds Elementary School in Raleigh will hold a book fair at Quail Ridge Books and Music, 3522 Wade Ave., at Ridgewood Shopping Center, from Saturday through Dec. 13.

Participants should say, "I'm a friend of Fred Olds," as they buy books during the fair, and the store will send 20 percent of the proceeds to support the school's media center.

On Dec. 13, Quail Ridge and the N.C. Arts Council will hold an all-day holiday arts event to help raise money for the school.
