closeA Special Forces soldier from Fort Bragg was killed in combat Saturday after a car bomb exploded, the Pentagon said Monday.
Master Sgt. Anthony R.C. Yost, 39, of Flint, Mich., died in Mosul, Iraq, when a bomb carried by a vehicle detonated near his position during combat operations, the Defense Department said in a prepared statement.
Yost had been trained as a crewman on an M-1 tank but was assigned to the 3rd Battalion of the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, Army spokeswoman Maj. Desiree Wineland said.

She said she had no information on the circumstances of Yost's death.
Eleven U.S. soldiers were wounded Saturday in the northern city of Mosul after attacking a suspected al-Qaeda safe house before dawn. During the intense gunbattle with suspected al-Qaeda members, three insurgents detonated explosives and killed themselves to avoid capture, Iraqi officials said.
Five more insurgents died fighting, while four police officers also were killed.
