RALEIGH -- Police this afternoon arrested the 26-year-old wife of a 46-year-old man who was found shot in the head in the Millbrook Exchange Park on Sunday morning.

Monique Suanne Berkley, who was herself shot in the shoulder, was charged with the murder of Paul Berkley, according to a news release from the Raleigh Police Department.

The arrest came shortly after two other suspects in the case, Andrew D. Canty, and Latwon D. Johnson, both 18, appeared in court to make their first court appearance on the charge of first-degree murder in the death of Paul Berkley.

Both men requested court appointed attorneys and returned to jail where they will await their next court appearance Jan. 9.

Police found the Berkleys after Monique Berkley dialed 911 on a cellular phone a few minutes before 3 a.m. Sunday and directed police to her and her husband, Raleigh Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said. The couple from Clayton were found on a trail that runs off an access road. Paul Berkley had been shot in the head.
