The Wake County Sheriff's Department will put a K-9 officer through his paces today to help raise money to buy a service dog for a 4-year-old autistic child.

Kody Young, son of Amanda Young of Cary, needs a service dog to aid him in everyday tasks and to be a companion. Amanda Young is working with an agency called 4 Paws for Ability and has set up a Web site for Kody at www.Kodyswish.com.

The fund-raiser will be held outside Sam's Club in Cary from noon to 3 p.m. The sheriff's department canine will help demonstrate what the dog Kody needs will be like. The family has raised $5,515 toward a goal of $12,000.

For more information contact Tim or Amanda Young at (919) 678-9774.
