Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation has awarded the North Carolina Rural Communities Assistance Project a $5,000 grant to assist Latino families in Chatham County by providing home water and air quality testing and other health-related services. The project is a nonprofit organization, located in Pittsboro, providing assistance on health issues to low-income, rural communities.

Through its Healthy Homes for All program, the project provides in-home visits and water testing to build awareness of and eliminate potential health risks associated with drinking water contaminants and lead poisoning. The testing includes checks of soil and surfaces for lead levels, as well as an analysis of drinking water quality. The project also performs health allergen assessments for asthma sufferers.

Additional information about the Foundation's signature programs and grant requirements, as well as a list of all grants awarded, can be found at the Web site www.bcbsnc.com/foundation.
