Forget "American Idol."

"Amazing Race," too.

If you've always dreamed of winning a reality TV competition, think "I Wanna Be a Soap Star."

On Friday in Durham, talent scouts will select 40 people to act out "soapy scenes" and read for a panel of judges including soap actor Alec Musser (Del Henry on "All My Children"); Miss North Carolina 2005, Brooke Elizabeth McLaurin; and Chris Hohmann, Barbara Gibbs and John Clark of WTVD Eyewitness News.

"What I'll be looking for most is self-assuredness and confidence," said Musser, 29.

At the end of the Durham event, one person will win a "Soap Talk" audition. Winners compete for a spot on ABC's "General Hospital."

Registration begins at 10 a.m. Friday at the American Tobacco Historic District, 324 Blackwell St.
