HILLSBOROUGH -- On Oct. 29, Friends of the Orange County Public Library will host a reading by Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and local author Doug Marlette.

The reading will take place at 3 p.m. at the Orange County Public Library, 300 W. Tryon St. in Hillsborough.

Marlette's novel "Magic Time" was released this month, and copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

In 1988, Marlette received the Pulitzer Prize, awarded "for a distinguished cartoon or portfolio of cartoons published during the year, characterized by originality, editorial effectiveness, quality of drawing, and pictorial effect." In 2002, Marlette published his first novel, "The Bridge," which was selected the best novel of 2002 by the Southeastern Booksellers' Association.
