Three Marines from Camp Lejeune were killed in Iraq late last week, the Defense Department reported today.
Two of the Marines were killed in combat on Thursday in Al Anbar province; the third died Saturday in a “non-hostile incident” in Al Anbar, the Defense Department reported.
Lance Cpl. James E. Brown, 20, of Owensville, Ind., and Staff Sgt. Jason D. Whitehouse, 27, of Phoenix, Ariz. died Thursday. Brown was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force. Whitehouse, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant, was assigned to 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
Second Lt. Mark C. Gelina, 33, of Moberly, Mo., died Saturday. Gelina was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
