CHAPEL HILL - Protesters and counterprotesters are expected to show up today when the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce officially welcomes the new Army recruiting station to town.

A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the station, 1502 E. Franklin St., in the shopping center between Estes Drive and Elliott Road.

Last month, the day after news that a soldier from Orange County had been killed by a bomb in Iraq, about 40 protesters marched to the station, chanting "Out of Iraq! Out of our schools!" They were surprised at the station by about a dozen middle-aged and older veterans who stood in support of the Army.
