DURHAM -- Jimmy Regan, a Duke lacrosse letterman from 1999 to 2002, was killed last week in Iraq, said Art Chase, the university's sports information director.

Regan, 26, was a member of the U.S. Army Rangers.

A native of Manhasset, N.Y., Regan finished his lacrosse career with 22 goals and four assists, helping the Blue Devils to a four-year record of 43-21 with ACC championships in 2001 and 2002 and four NCAA Tournament appearances. An Academic All-ACC selection, Regan was named to the 2002 ACC All-Tournament Team after scoring a career-high four goals and adding one assist as Duke defeated then top-ranked Virginia, 14-13, in the championship game.

Chase said Regan is the second Duke student-athlete to die in Iraq.

Marine Lt. Matthew Lynch, a native of Jericho, N.Y., who swam and played baseball at Duke, died Oct. 30, 2004.
