HILLSBOROUGH -- Habitat for Humanity of Orange County and the fire departments of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough will celebrate the installation of the 50th fire safety sprinkler system in a local Habitat for Humanity home at 9 a.m. today.

This home is at 410 Tulip Tree Road in the Fairview Community in Hillsborough. The home is being built in partnership with the UNC-Chapel Hill Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church, St. Paul's AME Church, East Chapel Hill High School, the Psi Chapter of Sigma Nu, the UNC-CH Department of City and Regional Planning, The Stewards Fund, and the Andrea Castellanas Ferrer and Marcelino Gomez Dominguez family.

The sprinkler systems have already saved the home of one Habitat for Humanity family this winter: When a kitchen fire began in the Chapel Hill home of Aaron and Trina Shah, the sprinkler system quickly doused the fire and potentially saved the lives of family members sleeping upstairs, officials said at the time.
