CARY -- Cary police cited 41 people for gambling, alcohol and drug offenses during a raid early Friday morning on a warehouse off Chapel Hill road.

The raid was prompted by a Crime Stoppers tip, and police suspect that the gambling operation had been in business for about a month, said Capt. Dave Wulff.

Wulff said the long, narrow warehouse space, near downtown Cary, was furnished with six poker tables. The warehouse is located at 233 M East Johnson St.

Police cited Matthew McCoy, 25, of 2013 Bulon Dr., Cary, the renter of the warehouse space, for running an illegal poker gaming operation, gambling and illegal sales and possession of alcoholic beverages. William Tillman, 45, 5724-D, Valley Ct., Raleigh, was cited for simple marijuana possession and gambling.

Wulff said that police also confiscated heroin but were unable to connect it to any of those who were present.

Thirty-nine others, ranging in age from 21 to 70, were cited for gambling.
