RALEIGH -- Members of the Raleigh City Council will meet today to discuss whether the city should take any action against Watson's Flea Market.

A joint meeting of the Public Safety and Public Works committees is planned for 3 p.m at City Hall. The flea market has been the scene of several crimes this year. Late last month a fruit and vegetable vendor was found shot to death at the market. A fellow market vendor has been charged with the murder.

In January, police arrested 15 people and confiscated an estimated $1 million worth of counterfeit clothes, CDs and movies from the market.

As many as 15,000 people pack into Watson's Flea Market on Rock Quarry Road in Southeast Raleigh on some weekends, often filling its parking lot past capacity.

Raleigh city officials, unhappy about the trash and traffic associated with Watson's, have talked about declaring it a public nuisance.
