A senior at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg was found dead in his dorm room this weekend after not being seen for more than a week, a city police detective said today.

Students summoned dorm monitors Sunday night after noticing a strong smell coming from the room of Daniel Goodstein, 22, an elementary education senior from Santa Clarita, Calif.

Laurinburg Police Det. Chris Young said investigators were treating the case as "a suspicious death" although no sign of foul play was present.

An autopsy was conducted Monday afternoon in Chapel Hill by state medical examiners, but results were pending.

Goodstein was last seen April 14 and had not been attending classes, Young said. Shortly after the body was found, police cleared three-story Concord Hall, placing students in other dormitories or housing off campus.
