Joe Davis, managing director-investments with Wachovia Securities in Raleigh, attended the second annual Top Advisors Summit held by Barron's magazine and R.J. Shook, author of The Winners Circle books, which rate America's top financial advisers.

Lacy Oliver from The Fuller House kitchen and bath showroom, a division of Murray Supply Co., attended a four-day training session at the Oceania headquarters in Quebec, where she received a certificate of completion from the Oceania School of Knowledge.

Hummingbird Creative Group received two awards from the American Graphic Design Awards. The awards were for a promotional card for special events rentals and a logo design for the Carolinas Wireless Association. The awards are sponsored by Adobe Systems.

Red Hat was ranked 29th in Fortune magazine's 16th annual 100 Fastest-Growing Companies list. Also, the company placed second in Business 2.0's 100 Fastest-Growing Technology Companies.

N.C. Public Radio-WUNC has received 50 regional and national awards for excellence in broadcasting and news reporting for reports aired during 2005 and the first six months of 2006. The "North Carolina Voices: Understanding Poverty" collection of features and documentaries was among the honored reports.

General contractor John S. Clark Co. ranked 21st in the country for retail construction according to Engineering News-Record. The company completed $151,600,000 in retail projects during 2005. John S. Clark has offices in Mount Airy, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Wilmington.

Steven D. Bell, chairman and chief executive officer of Steven D. Bell & Co., was inducted into the Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina's 25th annual Business Hall of Fame. Thomas L. White Jr., chairman of Alliance Cos., won the Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award.

Robert "Bob" K. Koger, president and chief executive director of the nonprofit Advanced Energy, received a national public leadership service award for his efforts to promote energy efficiency. The award was given by the U.S. Energy Association and Johnson Controls.

UNC Hospitals has been named one of the 50 top hospitals in the United States based on results from the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey, conducted by The Leapfrog Group, an organization that promotes improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of health care for Americans.

The Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina was presented two awards at the 2006 Assembly of Better Business Bureaus in Vancouver, British Columbia. The awards were for Outstanding Investigation and Special Project.

JordanBuilt Homes received two bronze and one silver award at the Homebuilders Association's Parade of Homes. Perry Builders received gold, silver and bronze awards at the event.
