Chip Hutchinson, founder and president of Insider Sports Marketing in Durham, was featured in an article in Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal titled "Teams, fans and foundations drive North Carolina's sports landscape."

Communities in Schools, a dropout-prevention organization, has named two people to its inaugural class of Robert H.B. Baldwin Fellows, a yearlong program that addresses the issues of leadership retention, development and transition in the nonprofit sector. The two honored are Cindy Kowal, executive director of Communities in Schools of Cumberland County, and Cynthia Marshall, founding executive director of Communites in Schools of Charlotte/Mecklenburg.

Five financial representative interns with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network's Carolina Condrey Group are winners in the 2006 Summer Lives Contest sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. The students will be featured in an issue of Young Money magazine. They will also have their photos displayed on MonsterTrak.com and MTVu.com. Juan Baron, Erin Potocki and Robert Pryately are students at Kenan Flagler School of Business, UNC-Chapel Hill; Andrew Watkins is a Chapel Hill native attending Emory University; and John Edwards is a graduate student at UNC-Wilmington.

Security Relocation Group in Goldsboro received an Atlas Military Achievement Certificate for earning a 100 percent quality semiannual score from the military. The military shipment score is based on ontime pickup, ontime delivery and no damage or claim.

Flywheel Design, a graphic design and marketing company in downtown Durham, received a 2006 Best of the Internet Award in the national 2006 DesignFirm Web Awards Competition. The winning entry was a Web site for Mangum 506, a residential development in Durham.

Life's Bridge (www.lifesbridge.com), which is a Durham coaching service for professionals who are transitioning to retirement, was spotlighted as a valuable resource for CPAs and accountants for retirement information in the November issue of Journal of Accountancy.

The following individuals and organizations won Goodmon Awards presented by Leadership Triangle. Bruce Lightner, chief executive officer of Lightner Funeral Home, won Exemplary Regional Leadership by an Individual; Alice Gordon, Orange County Commissioner, won Exemplary Regional Leadership by an Elected Official; The Triangle United Way won Exemplary Regional Leadership by an Organization; and The High Five Regional Partnership for High School Excellence won Exemplary Regional Partnership.

Quality Design and Construction, a Raleigh design and building company, was awarded second place in the 5 Oceans Remodeling Contest sponsored by Velux America. Remodelers from across the country submitted entries detailing projects that used Velux skylights.

Stop Studios in Durham received an American Graphic Design Award for excellence in design. The award recognizes Stop Studios' logo, letterhead and stationery.

Cathy Larose of Weichert, Realtors-Larose & Company in Pinehurst and Southern Pines, was designated a certified residential specialist by the Council of Residential Specialists, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.

Valerie K. Fields, chief executive officer of V.K. Fields and Co., a public relations and copywriting firm in Raleigh, won a 2006 Lamplighter Youth Outreach Award at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The awards are presented by McDonald's and The Light 103.9 FM, and recognize individuals and organizations for volunteerism and community service efforts.
