Raleigh advertising agency Howard, Merrell & Partners was the big winner in this year's Addys competition.
Howard Merrell led the 63 Triangle agencies that entered the competition with a dozen awards, including three gold awards. It also won a "Best of Show" in the print category, for a campaign for R-Zilla brand reptile products such as food, bedding and lighting.
The Addys are sponsored by the Ad Club of the Triangle, which handed out 94 awards in all. Agencies tout the awards they win to impress clients and, perhaps more importantly, potential clients.
Three agencies tied for second with seven awards: Anoroc and Capstrat, both of Raleigh, and The Republik, which is based in Durham.
Howard Merrell's three gold awards tied for the most golds with JW Productions of Raleigh.
Lorana Price, who led this year's competition, said the overall entries were so strong that the judges took almost 12 hours to select winners.
McKinney, by far the largest ad agency in the Triangle, didn't participate in the Addys competition.
Triangle Addy winners move on to regional and national Addy competitions.
