What will the bride be wearing this summer and fall?

If you're expecting more of the same -- strapless wedding gowns -- get ready to see some new styles of familiar bridal silhouettes.

After almost a decade as the most popular style of wedding dress, the strapless gown appears to be fading in popularity.

"Most girls are coming in looking to go back to the basics," says Anna Kemp, a bridal consultant at Traditions bridal shop in North Hills.

She says more than half of the brides coming into the store recently are asking for something other than strapless.

Instead, they're looking for old classics, with off the shoulder, soft or V necklines. Many are requesting lace or other types of romantic gowns.

But by no means is the strapless look gone. More than 75 percent of gown designers have strapless looks in their collections, store owners say.

The strapless gown started gaining popularity in the late '90s and became one of the most enduring trends in fashion, even to the surprise of wedding dress store owners.

The reason the gowns stayed so popular was simple: It's a flattering look on most women, especially those with broader shoulders.
