Guitars, bass and rangy vocals provide the foundation for the bluegrass/folk offerings of local trio, Nixon, Blevins and Gage. Tonight, the talented acoustic pickers will perform at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

From "Mama's Opry" and "My Life" to "In Spite of Ourselves," her saucy duet with John Prine, acclaimed singer/songwriter Iris DeMent has earned Grammy nominations and avid fans. The youngest of 14 children, the Arkansas native uses unadorned vocals and personal songs to delve into religion, family, politics and war. On Saturday, DeMent brings her art to Cat's Cradle.

The fourth annual Fireworks and Bluegrass Festival kicks off Wednesday and runs through July 5 at the Laurel Lakes Campground near Salemburg. Wednesday's lineup features Carolina Sonshine, Charles Carlyle, Red and Donna, and others. On Thursday, David Davis and the Warrior River Boys, the Circuit Riders and other acts will perform. The four-day festival will be a benefit for wounded service members who have returned from Iraq. www.laurellakesbluegrass.com
