Fans of Holly Aiken bags will soon find them in downtown Raleigh. Aiken is opening a new shop, Stitch by Holly Aiken, next month at the corner of Hargett and Wilmington streets. She closed her Glenwood South shop last spring after four years there.
"I had my eye on [the downtown building] for a long time," Aiken said. She'll run her retail shop on the bottom floor and will make the bags upstairs, where customers can watch if they like. "You can see manufacturing of bags. Customers like that," Aiken said.
Aiken will offer new bags and new color combinations when she reopens downtown.
By Christmas she hopes to expand her products, possibly offering clothing and dog accessories. "I'm going to start small, get feedback from customers and then take it from there," Aiken said.
Eventually she might sell other people's designs.
Aiken plans to open the downtown shop in mid-August and have a grand opening the first weekend in September, coinciding with Raleigh Wide Open.
