His short marriage to actress Renee Zellweger and recording of "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" notwithstanding, Kenny Chesney has made some good career decisions over the years. They've helped propel him to the top ranks of country music's recording and touring acts. While Raleigh isn't exactly the Caribbean (one of Chesney's favorite haunts), he's sure to kick up a beachcomber's share of sand and surf when he brings his chart-topping hits to Walnut Creek amphitheater tonight and Saturday. LeAnn Rimes will also perform.
Raleigh native Tift Merritt received a Grammy nod for her second CD, "Tambourine." Her follow-up, "Another Country," draws inspiration from time spent living and writing in Paris. On Saturday, Merritt returns home for an outdoor concert at the N.C. Museum of Art. (See page 10.)
