The 31st annual Bass Mountain Labor Day Weekend Festival kicks off today at Bass Mountain Park in Snow Camp. One of our state's longest-running and best-run bluegrass festivals, Bass Mountain provides outstanding music in a family-friendly atmosphere. Today's lineup features David Parmley and Continental Divide, local favorites the Steep Canyon Rangers, Blue Moon Rising, and the Lonesome River Band. On Saturday, Mountain Heart, Lost and Found, the Grass Cats, Beth Stevens and Edge, and others will perform. Sunday's artists will include Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out, Mark Templeton and Pocket Change, and Beth Stevens and Edge. www.bassmountain.com

Also Sunday, original Red Clay Ramblers Bill Hicks, Jim Watson and Mike Craver, along with banjoist Joe Newberry, will offer an evening old-time music favorites at Southern Village.
