With holiday entertaining set to start, we went looking for professional advice on how to stock a home bar.

This is the last in our four-part series on the tools you need if you want to cook, grill, bake or make a cocktail. But for this installment, we sought not only equipment suggestions but liquors.

Our experts include Chuck Babcock, a bartender at J. Betski's in Raleigh, and Lewis Ray, who mixes cocktails at The Duck & Dumpling in Raleigh. They offer some essential advice to start.

Babcock suggests you stock up on tools and liquor based on what your guests are likely to drink; beer drinkers don't require a cocktail shaker. And why splurge on scotch if your friends are happier with bourbon?

Speaking of liquor, Ray recommends going to bars and tasting before spending $30 or $40 on any bottle.

For those trying to save money this season (aren't we all?), Ric Palao, who serves drinks at Lantern restaurant in Chapel Hill, offers some advice on frugal barkeep tools.
