Wine social, anyone?
3CUPS, a coffee, tea and wine shop in Chapel Hill, is hosting a series of events in January meant to be the antithesis of the wine dinner. They are called wine socials and cost $20 each.
Here's the lineup:
- Jan. 8, 6-8 p.m.: a wine and Triple B farm Brunswick stew social featuring farmer Bailey Newton serving his signature stew.
- Jan. 14, 7-8:30 p.m.: a wine basics discussion and tasting with 3CUPS wine buyer Jay Murrie.
- Jan. 15, 6-8 p.m.: a wine and charcuterie social with Sam Suchoff, aka "the meat adviser" to the owners of The Barbecue Joint.
- Feb. 12, 6-8 p.m.: a wine and Southern condiments social featuring April McGregor, the owner of A Farmer's Daughter.
Learning down on La Farm
Cary's La Farm bakery is holding a class that will help any parent trying to save money on pizza delivery.
- Jan. 13, 5:30-8:30 p.m.: Master baker Lionel Vatinet will teach how to make organic wheat and whole wheat pizza crusts. Once you master the crust, the toppings are easy.
- Jan. 14, 5:30-8:30 p.m.: Vatinet teaches basics of French bread.
- Jan. 15, 5:30-8:30 p.m.: Death by Chocolate Dessert menu, which includes profiteroles, chocolate mousse, mocha lava cake and Belgian chocolate pecan bread pudding.
Each class costs $65. Call 657-0657 to reserve a space.
