It may be hard for Target to top the Anya Hindmarch handbags that have been in stores for the past few months, but a new line could prove to be worthy competition.
Target recently launched the seventh of its limited-edition designer handbag lines.
Brooklyn-based Hayden-Harnett is the quirky design partnership of Toni Hacker and Ben Harnett. The pair formed the company in 2005 to create bags for which utility marries form, and the brand quickly became a cult favorite. Bags retail for $200 to $700.
At Target, no doubt one of the best sellers of the dozen Hayden-Harnett bags will be the flight tote in black, which combines practicality and style. Other silhouettes in the collection include oversized envelope clutches and convertible hobos.
Also expect to see an array of hardware, including studs, chains and grommets, that are both practical and functional.
The bags, which are priced from $19.99 to $49.99, will be in stores through March 15.
Glam Lounge goes golden
Two local hairstylists this week will get to experience some of the glitz and glamour of the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.
Dawn Bender and Justin Dare, the owners of the Raleigh hair salon Glam Lounge, are headed to Hollywood this week to participate in the Golden Globe's two-day Style Lounge, a trade show of sorts for actors and stylists.
What's in store? Perhaps a blowout for January Jones (nominated for her role in "Mad Men")? A gift bag of products for Anne Hathaway (nominated for her role in "Rachel Getting Married")?
It's all part of the plan to schmooze with A-listers to help promote their new Glam line hair care products, which includes a shampoo, conditioner, volumizer and straightener.
Anyone who comes through the lounge will at least get a gift bag full of product samples.
Bender and Dare are also bringing their styling tools -- just in case someone wants a blowout or quick updo, two of their specialities.
The Style Lounge, which runs Thursday and Friday -- before the awards show is aired live on Sunday -- gives up-and-coming companies and smaller brands a chance to get exposure in front of style makers. About 30 other sponsors will be in the lounge with Glam Lounge and as many as 70 celebrities are expected to come through, along with their stylists.
This isn't the duo's first time hobnobbing with celebrities.
Bender and Dare also worked the Style Lounge at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival where they styled celebrities including Katherine Heigl of "Grey's Anatomy" and Kate Walsh of "Private Practice."
