It's a new year, kids. So, you know what that means? That's right a brand-new Winter Film Series will be unspooling at the N.C. Museum of Art.
The 12-week series (which will include a movie introduced by yours truly, but we'll talk about that on a later date) will start off with an oldie but a goodie: Charlie Chaplin's 1931 classic "City Lights." The series and the movie kicks off tonight at 8, and admission is $5 ($3.50 for museum, CInema, Inc. and Galaxy Cinema members). Details: 715-5923; http://www.ncartmuseum.org/events/films.shtml#winter.
Speaking of onscreen revivals, the Galaxy Cinema in Cary has been in the retro-celluloid thick of it lately with its Classic Film Series. This weekend, the Galaxy is showing the 1982 forever-funny comedy "Tootsie" as a tribute to its director, the late Sydney Pollack. It shows at 12:50 p.m. today through Sunday, and tickets are $5 ($4 for Galaxy members). Details: 463-9989; http://www.mygalaxycinema.com.
And, finally, Traingle hipsters who crave short films can once again rejoice! The first Flicker festival of the new year will be on and popping over at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro on Sunday night. It starts at 9:30, and admission is $3. Details: 967-9053; http://www.flickerfestival.com.
