So your book group is reading "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. You're going to have the gang over to talk about it all -- well, kinda. You'll also want to eat and maybe do some other stuff. How about S.E. Hinton's Curtis Family Chocolate Cake? In fact, Hinton recommends that you have a Breakfast Club meeting -- and eat chocolate cake for breakfast. And how about making a Family Celebration Collage? It will help you talk about what makes a family in the book.

Those are just a couple of ideas you'll find in "The Kids' Book Club Book" by Judy Gelman and Vicki Levy Krupp (Tarcher/Penguin, $16.95). The book provides a number of suggested books for various age groups, with a recipe and craft idea for each, as well as questions for discussion.

If you're crazy for American Girl books, check "The Book Club Kit" by American Girl ($10.95), which includes tips for organizing a group and some guidelines (like "If I don't like the book, do I have to finish it?") and ways to keep groups running smoothly. It includes bookmarks, question cards and invitations. All the recommended books are, of course, American Girl books.
