You Are My Heartthrob and I Love You to the Very Core Apple Pie

Pie winner Anne Brill writes:

My husband and I love pie! His love affair with pie dates back to his early childhood when his grandmother during family gatherings would sneak him into the kitchen for a second piece of pie. Pie for him is wrapped up in those special memories of a grandparent's love.

The pie-baking tradition has continued in our family, and each autumn, I bake at least one apple pie, different from the previous year's apple pie, and hopefully better. This year, after browsing the Internet for inspiration, I decided to add dried cherries to the apple filling. I looked through my cupboards and found a bottle of Framboise, a raspberry liqueur (left over from making sangria last year for my niece's wedding brunch). I marinated the dried cherries in Framboise, and since they added a red tinge to the filling, a crust with hearts cut out seemed the perfect design for the top pie crust. This pie is now one of our favorite pies.

I like to envision Jenna from the movie "Waitress" having brighter times ahead in her life, baking for her true love and dubbing this pie, "You Are My Heartthrob and I Love You to the Very Core Apple Pie."
