Each week a Triangle wine vendor offers recommendations in three price categories: less than $10, $10-$20 and more than $20. This week's list comes from Jennifer Faircloth of Anytime Wines at 2425 Kildaire Farm Road, Suite 405 in Cary.

Deal: Lyrup Crossing 2004 Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon, $8.99. This bargain from South Eastern Australia is 90 percent Shiraz, the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose offers spice, a hint of white pepper, berry fruit and plum aromas. On the palate, the wine has flavors of rich berries with hints of spice and licorice culminating in a long finish. This smooth wine is ideal for quaffing at holiday parties and would also pair well with roasted or grilled meats.

Moderation: Foris 2006 Pinot Noir, $17.99. This great Pinot from Oregon's Rogue Valley has subtle aromas of dark fruit and chocolate. The medium-bodied palate has ripe blackberries and dark cherries with a hint of spice and chocolate, with subtle tannins and a pleasant acidity on the finish. Perfect match for your Christmas turkey.

Splurge: Bennett Lane 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, $57.99. Yes, this Napa Valley Cab is a splurge, but it's worth it for that special someone on your list, or for a special holiday dinner. This decadent wine is concentrated, rich and absolutely delicious, and its dark fruit flavors, spice and mocha almost melt in your mouth. Great with a rack of lamb or standing rib roast ... or any full-flavored red meat.
