Kristi's winning style

The clothes still shine as gold medal skater turns into adept celebrity dancer

The cha-cha-cha, fox trot and mambo might have been new to Kristi Yamaguchi, but she's no stranger to the over-the-top, glitzy dance wear she's worn on "Dancing with the Stars."

In her previous life as a competitive ice skater, sequins and brightly colored dresses were a key part of the job, not necessarily helping Yamaguchi win world skating titles but certainly helping set the tone of her performance.

Same thing goes on "Dancing with the Stars."

We take a look at Yamaguchi's sparkly skating past and sizzling dancing present.

Was it a coincidence Yamaguchi performed her first dance on "Dancing" in a gold sequined dress? Gold sequin dresses, after all, have proven lucky for her in the past. In 1992, when she skated for Olympic gold in France, Yamaguchi was a hit in a gold and black sequin skating dress.

Yamaguchi is just as dazzling in bright colors as she is in sequins. Her purple slinky sarong dress might have showed a little more skin than we've seen her in on "Dancing," but then so did the fuchsia leotard from her skating days.

If you had Yamaguchi's toned gams, you'd do some skirt twirling too. Early in her skating days in the late '80s and early '90s, she was all thighs. In 2008, she's all calves.
