U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole is pushing for more funding to help the Social Security Administration determine quicker whether people are eligible for disability benefits.

Dole, a Salisbury Republican, said today that she has told the leaders of the Senate Budget Committee that the agency needs more money to reduce the backlog and long delays in reviewing appeals for Social Security disability benefits.

“These waiting times are a top concern of many of our constituents and are a constant source of casework in many Senate offices,” Dole and 36 other senators wrote in a letter to the budget committee.
