MORRISVILLE -
Police have charged a former UNC-Chapel Hill basketball player and his wife with several felony drug charges, including trafficking.
The charges against Clyde Lynn III, 32, of 209 Tylerway Lane in Morrisville include possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, and maintaining a dwelling for the possession, sale and delivery of cocaine and marijuana, Morrisville police spokesman Paul Gross said Friday.
Lynn was charged also with felony trafficking of cocaine, according to court records.
His wife, Deleithia Summey Lynn, 31, also was charged with maintaining a dwelling for the possession, sale and delivery of a controlled substance, court records show.
The Lynns were arrested during the early-morning hours of Jan. 26 after police stopped Clyde Lynn's 1996 Isuzu Rodeo. He was charged first with driving with a revoked license. Police then searched the Rodeo and found 22 grams of cocaine.
Police then obtained a warrant to search the Lynns' home about 3 a.m., and say they seized 13 additional grams of cocaine and 523 grams of marijuana. Investigators also discovered various drug paraphernalia and contraband, police reported.
The trafficking charge is punishable by a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 35 months and a minimum fine of $50,000, according to state statutes.
According to a UNC-CH media guide, Lynn graduated in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. He was a walk-on, or nonscholarship, player for the men's basketball team.
Last week's charges are not Lynn's first serious run-in with the law. In 2003, he was charged with having sex with a 15-year-old student while working as an intervention coordinator and assistant coach at Green Hope High School in Cary.
The charges of statutory sexual offense and sexual activity with a student are pending in Wake County Superior Court, a spokeswoman with the District Attorney's Office said Friday.
Lynn remained in custody at the Wake County jail Friday in lieu of $231,500 bail. His wife was released Jan. 26 after posting $10,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said.
