N.C. State is weighing whether to change some tailgating restrictions that close the parking lots until four hours before kickoff. Here is how some News & Observer readers feel about the issue.

"Why does anyone need (or want) to tailgate for more than four hours anyway? Four hours is way more than enough time to eat and get drunk and walk around going, 'Wooo! Go Pack!' over and over."

Beth Ellison, Raleigh

"The six-hour window allows the many Wolfpackers from outside the immediate area to make a day out of watching the Wolfpack play football and get the most out of their tailgating work. Although I feel secure in the parking lot, I do believe a heightened presence of contracted security or campus police or Raleigh's finest is needed to preserve the atmosphere."

Donald Reeves, Holly Springs

"The unfortunate incident a couple of years ago is a tragedy and demonstrates behavior that can't be tolerated. The four-hour rule, along with increased patrols and other actions, was necessary to send the message to fans that they are responsible for their actions and certain behaviors are unacceptable. I believe the four-hour rule has been effective in that regard.

"However, depending on game time, logistically it can dampen the tailgating atmosphere. Ideally, I would favor a rule of gates opening at 8 a.m., regardless of game time, with continued heightened patrol of the parking areas."

Ken Byrd, Hillsborough

"I don't think the stupidity of a few should carry more weight than the responsible many. ...

"Take a look at how Clemson does it. They get it right. But don't punish your loyal alumni who are responsible and just want to carry on our tailgating tradition."

Ken Tyndall, Wendell

"I know of no other college tailgating restrictions like we have here at N.C. State. It was unfortunate someone died, but it happened after the game had started. Get more patrols during the games. Get people who do not have tickets to the game out of the tailgating areas."

Chris Boswell, Dunn
