The duo averaged a combined 27.1 points per game, leading Duke to its 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and an 11th straight 20-plus-win season.

Nelson also received the Bill Krzyzewski Captains' Award and the best defensive player award.

McRoberts collected Iron Dukes (most minutes played), best field goal percentage, best rebounding average and Captains' Awards.

Joe Pagliuca, the lone senior on the Blue Devils' roster this season, received the Coach's Award as the player exemplifying the commitment and values of Duke basketball. Pagliuca was also awarded the Dr. Deryl Hart Award as the team's top scholar-athlete for the third straight year. Sophomore David McClure earned the Glenn E. "Ted" Mann Award as the reserve contributing the most to team morale.

Sophomore Greg Paulus and freshman Jon Scheyer also took home awards on Tuesday with Paulus claiming the most assists award and Scheyer the best free-throw percentage award.

WOODEN IMPROVING: Former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden could be released by Thursday from a hospital where he has been treated for a reaction to a combination of medications.

The 96-year-old Hall of Fame coach has been in a Los Angeles-area hospital since Sunday when he began suffering symptoms similar to those he experienced a year ago when he was hospitalized for diverticulitis, an inflammation of pockets in the colon.

Wooden's daughter Nan Muehlhausen said her father was doing well and walked around "a little bit" Tuesday.

COACHING NEWS: Mark Schmidt was hired as St. Bonaventure's coach Tuesday, leaving Robert Morris for the challenge of invigorating a program coming off four straight 19-loss seasons.

* Mark Turgeon was introduced as Texas A&M's basketball coach Tuesday, five days after Billy Gillispie left for Kentucky. Turgeon comes to Texas A&M from Wichita State.

* Iona hired Kevin Willard as basketball coach on Tuesday, the first head coaching job for the ex-Louisville and Boston Celtics assistant. Iona is coming off a woeful 2-28 season under Jeff Ruland, who was bought out of the final two years of his contract.
