| During a recess 10:45 pm recess on Thursday night , Sen. Harris Blake, front, and Sen. Jim Forrester rest on couches outside the Senate chamber. "It's been a long, exhausting day," said Forrester, Republican joint caucus leader from Stanley county. As the lawmakers tried to finish the 2005-2006 session, they put in long hours Thursday working on the multiple bills. At 1: 13 a.m. Friday, the N.C. General Assembly adjourned with "sine die," the Latin phrase for "without day," meaning without assigning a day for a further meeting. The use of the phrase is ceremonial, however: The new session will convene next year on January 24. | ||
