Code Of Silence

Carolina Ballet Sept. 18-21, Memorial Auditorium

Fans of Lynne Taylor-Corbett's arresting "Carmina Burana" and "Lost and Found" will find more deep emotional wells to plumb in "Code of Silence," inspired by Amnesty International's cause. Set to a mournful, sometimes jarring score by Arvo Pärt, "Code" brings to mind a world of ills, from domestic violence to war, but also shows the balm of compassion. 719-0900; 834-4000, www.ticketmaster.com.

Bare Soundz

Savion Glover

Oct. 26, Page Auditorium, Duke University

Tony-winner Savion Glover ("Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk") gets down to the percussive nitty-gritty in a symphony of tap that draws on jazz, reggae and other genres. Glover, known for his "Sesame Street" and "Tap" performances and his more recent movement modeling for "Happy Feet," embodies the history of tap while taking it to unexpected places. His new program includes two other dancers, Marshall Davis Jr. and Maurice Chestnut. 684-4444, tickets.duke.edu.

Inbal Pinto Dance Company

Nov. 5, Memorial Hall, UNC-CH

"Rushes," Israeli choreographers Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollack's 2007 collaboration with Pilobolus at the American Dance Festival, whet the appetite for more. And here it is, in the form of a surreal invention inspired by a snow globe and performed with snowlike flakes at the dancers' feet. 843-3333, www.carolinaperformingarts.org.
