RALEIGH -- The Wake County Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday supporting House Bill 906 to scratch the $50 substitute payment required of teachers who want to use personal leave days.

The resolution also includes support for any other legislation that could be introduced to eliminate the policy which requires teachers to contribute to the cost of a substitute teacher. The policy has been effect since the 1960s.

During a committee meeting earlier, board members had discussed including funding in next year's budget. It would cost Wake about $800,000 to cover the substitute deduction.

A hearing with the State Personnel Committee to discuss the bill is scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the Legislative Office Building, 300 N. Salisbury St.
