Lee Conner may not be the most intense Carolina fan, but he is probably in the upper 15 percent.
Conner has been blogging at share.triangle.com about his Tar Heels. (See an excerpt on this page.) He is married, 33 years old and lives in Burling-ton. He commutes to work in Durham as a lawyer for Square 1 Bank, which specializes in lending to entrepreneurs.
Conner spent eight years at UNC, as an undergraduate and while earning his law and MBA degrees.
In his blog, at share.triangle. com/marchingheels, he notes that he has rooted for the Tar Heels since he was 7 years old, when his mother let him stay up late to watch the 1982 championship game.
When he was a high school senior, he visited UNC on the day the team won the 1993 championship, and he was also on Franklin Street in 2005.
He says he missed attending only one game at the Dean Dome during his many years as a student, and that was for a job interview.
This year, he has managed to attend all of UNC's NCAA tournament games but wasn't able to get tickets for San Antonio, so he will probably be watching somewhere on Franklin Street if the Tar Heels make it to Monday night.
Incidentally, on Conner's blog you can see his bulldog, which he dresses up in a Tyler Hansbrough jersey at the end of close games.
Sunday StarWe are launching the second edition of Sunday Star. This is a contest to find the best religious singers in the Triangle. Last year, we got 28 entries, and we cut the list to six finalists and let you vote online for the best ones. The winner was Blair Dougher from Grace Community Church in Raleigh.
You can go to share.triangle.com/star2008 to read the rules and enter the contest, and find a link to last year's finalists and their songs. The deadline for entries is April 25. First prize is $75.
Groups that are entering should designate a choir director or soloist/leader as the entrant. Limit your entry to one song: no more than four minutes, no bigger than 10 MB and in MP3 format.

Duke conferenceThe last day and a half I have been at Duke at a conference on the Next Newsroom.
The conference has been organized by Chris O'Brien, who may be familiar to folks around here because he used to be a reporter with The N&O.
Chris, a Duke alum, has been at the San Jose Mercury News, working as a business writer.
He is on leave to help the Duke student newspaper, The Chronicle, design a new newsroom that will be suited to the changing environment for journalism.
The work is being funded with a grant from the Knight Foundation, and there were people here from all over the country -- from colleges and from a variety of media outlets -- trying to learn from this project. To learn more, go to
