Pilot of downed plane out of hospital

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. - The pilot of a single-engine plane that crashed on the front lawn of a home late last month in coastal Georgia is out of the hospital.

Memorial University Medical Center spokesman Michael Notrica said Friday that Terry Scallan has been released after more than a week in the Savannah hospital. Notrica declined to release details on Scallan's injuries.

The Lumber Bridge, North Carolina, resident was flying April 30th with his 39-year-old daughter, Wendy Kennedy, and his 8-year-old granddaughter, Emily Kennedy, from Zellwood, Florida, back home to North Carolina. The single-engine Piper they were in hit an oak tree and flipped upside down in the front yard of a home near Savannah.

Notrica says Scallan's daughter has also been discharged from the hospital. His granddaughter suffered two chippped teeth but no serious injuries.
