Pedestrian struck, critically injured

From Staff ReportsSeptember 16, 2005

A 16-year-old girl was critically injured Thursday morning when she crossed the street and was hit by a sport utility vehicle.

Stephanie Burgos of Northwood Hills Avenue was crossing Guess Road at 6:38 a.m. when a southbound Chevrolet Suburban hit her, according to a Durham police news release.

Burgos was in critical condition Thursday night at Duke Hospital. The driver of the SUV, William Lee Bowen Jr., 36, of Hillsborough, wasn't injured, the release said.

Speed did not appear to be a factor, and no charges had been filed, police said.
