Memorial to honor state's firefighters

From Staff ReportsSeptember 27, 2005

Work has started on the N.C. Fallen Firefighters memorial in Nash Square downtown.

Workers had put construction fencing around the center of the park Monday afternoon.

The memorial, which will include a sculpture of 6-foot bronze firefighters, is expected to be finished by Christmas, Raleigh Fire Capt. Andy Woodall said. It will honor firefighters statewide who died in the line of duty.

It is being built for about $250,000, all of it privately donated, Woodall said. The sculptor is Carl Regutti of Cary.
