Raleigh officers promoted

Raleigh officers promoted

From Staff ReportsOctober 13, 2005

When an officer in the Police Department has a partner with four legs, sometimes special measures are needed.

On Wednesday, these measures included moving a promotion ceremony from its typical spot -- an auditorium -- to the lawn of Nash Square.

T.H. Sellew, an officer in the mounted unit, was promoted to sergeant and will be moved from the downtown district to District 24.

Sellew's family and his horse, Cody, stood by during the ceremony.

Also, J.D. Hunt, who most recently has worked with the robbery task force, was promoted to corporal and will be stationed in District 24 in Southeast Raleigh.

Thanks to the presence of several mounted officers at the ceremony, Hunt's young son had the opportunity to pet not one, but two, horses at the same time.
