Woman tending children is robbed

From Staff ReportsNovember 17, 2005

A woman was caring for her two young grandchildren at her North Raleigh home Tuesday afternoon when a man rushed into the home and robbed her.

Janet Sharpe Watkins, 57, was at her home in the 10900 block of Ashland Mill Court in the Brier Creek Country Club development when a man forced his way into the home and demanded jewelry, said Watkins and Jim Sughrue, spokesman for the Raleigh Police Department.

She and the children, a 3-year-old girl and infant boy, were unharmed.

The man had a dark complexion, was at least 6 feet tall and had a "husky" build, police said. He wore a long-sleeve yellow T-shirt, dark pants and a piece of black material over his face that had holes for him to see through, Watkins said.

Anyone with information about the man or the incident is asked to call police at 890-3555.
