Police hunt suspects in kidnap and rape

From Staff ReportsJanuary 11, 2006

Police were trying to find two suspects in connection with an abduction and rape early Tuesday morning.

A 38-year-old woman reported that she was standing outside a house about 5:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Liberty Street when she was approached by two men, said Durham police Investigator N.M. Cloninger.

The woman had gone outside to smoke a cigarette when one of the men displayed a large gun and forced her into a tan car, said Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

The woman was raped in a parking lot near the house on Liberty Street, Cloninger said. Police had only vague descriptions of the suspects Tuesday.
