New principal, position announced

The Wake County school board appointed a new principal on Tuesday and announced the creation of a new position to oversee year-round education issues.

Floyd Lowman was named principal of Leesville Road Middle School in North Raleigh. He has been an assistant principal at Athens Drive HIgh since 2000.

Caroline W. Massengill was transferred to the new post of special assistant for year-round education. She is now senior director for magnet programs and previously was principal of three of Wake's year-round schools.
