EDUCATION: Bachelor of science in business administration from Barton College in Wilson, 1993. Secretarial diploma from Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh, 1968.

CAREER: Various titles from clerk typist to program analyst to acting deputy assistant administrator for research and development, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1969 to 2002. N.C. Department of Revenue, 1968 to 1969.

ACTIVISM: President of the Wake County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 2003 to present. President of the board of directors of Club Horizon in Knightdale, 2003 to present.

HOBBY: Pottery and oil painting.

MOST UNUSUAL JOB: When she was 16, she drove a school bus for Knightdale High School.
