Candidate returns for county contest

From Staff ReportsFebruary 7, 2006

Jamie Daniel, a Republican who ran for Orange County commissioner two years ago, announced Monday he will try again.

Three of the five commissioners seats are up this year: those held by Alice Gordon, Steve Halkiotis and Barry Jacobs. So far, one other person, former Carrboro Mayor Mike Nelson, has said he will run for the board.

Daniel supports term limits and district representation for commissioners.

Daniel, who lives in Hillsborough, said he rejected advice to register as a Democrat before running again. "I have run before as a Republican, and I will remain so, as to change my national party affiliation before the election only to gain votes would be misrepresenting myself to the citizens I wish to represent," he said.
