Blaylock became police chief in 2001 and was named head of the newly created Public Safety Department in 2002. Town Manager Gary McConkey said Blaylock's position, which oversees the police and fire departments, will remain unfilled while the town searches for a permanent replacement.

Police Division Commander Richard Pope and Fire Division Commander Tim Guffey will remain in charge of their respective departments.
