Brush fire draws Apex firefighters

From Staff ReportsMarch 31, 2006

Apex firefighters responded to a brush fire Thursday afternoon in an area where trees had been cleared and the dead wood was gathered in piles.

Firefighters fought the 60-acre blaze for four hours near U.S. 1 and Bonsal Road, said Alan Capps, battalion chief for the Apex Fire Department. Smoke from the blaze slowed rush-hour traffic and prompted some motorists to find alternate routes.

The fire was put out just after 6 p.m., and nearby homes were not damaged, Capps said.
